What to Do if You Can’t Afford to Hire Yet – But NEED Help!

November 8, 2019

Today we’re talking about what you need to do NOW if you can’t afford to hire yet but desperately need support in your business.

I recently had an amazing session with a client where I watched her go from completely overwhelmed and confused about hiring to knowing her strategy to get there.

It was amazing to hear her say, “you know, for so long I had always seen hiring as an expense, but now I see it’s an INVESTMENT.”

Because now we have a strategy for how she’s going to leverage this first hire to make more profit in her business so she can serve more clients, scale, and make more hires in the future.

“I Know I Need Help, but I Can’t Afford to Hire!”

My client told me, “Okay, I know I need to hire SOONER than later because I’m suffocating. I need to put on my oxygen mask or my business will suffer and I will suffer. But how do I get there?”

You might be finding yourself in a similar situation. If so, there is encouragement coming!

It’s a tough situation because it’s a Catch 22, right? You need more money to hire, but you need more client work to to make more money, but you need help to handle more client work – what’s an entrepreneur to do?

If you need support in your business, focusing on continuing to do #allthethings won’t get you where you need to go.

You need to do everything you can in this moment to do the ONE thing that will put you in a position to bring on support.

What is that one thing for you?

You Need MONEY to Afford to Hire

Every time I ask someone what is standing in the way between them and hiring support it’s always the same answer – MONEY. We need to hire, but we simply can’t afford to hire.

So how do we make it happen?

What are you doing right now to bring in the funds? Hint: it’s not a bigger Pinterest strategy, more emails or more time on Facebook Live.

Strategies are great, but they are a long term game. When you need support right now and you need the funds right now, you are not playing a long term game.

So what do you do to bring in money right now? Get people to pay you – hello!

If you’re feeling the pain of needing to hire but can’t afford it, you’re likely in one of two camps.

Camp #1 : You’re Overworked but Still Can’t Afford to Hire

Your problem isn’t that you don’t have enough clients walking through the door.

The problem is you aren’t being compensated appropriately for your work.

I would wager a guess that 90% of you need to raise your prices. But as you do so, you need to make sure you are clearly communicating the problem that your solution solves.

Raise your prices, highlight the transformation you bring to your clients and communicate it strongly to your audience!

Camp #2 : You Need More Clients

If you’re like my client, you simply need more consistent clientele walking through your doors in order to afford the help you need and crave.

Here’s the simple truth: WHAT YOU FOCUS ON GROWS.

Your one priority in business right now is to do everything in your power to GET PEOPLE TO THE SALE.

Determine how many clients you need to be able to afford to hire, and identify where in your process you MAKE THE SALE.

Where in your process do people go from lead to paying client (i.e. they are onboarded)?

Your job is to get as many people to that point as you possibly can.

For me and for many of you, I’m sure, it’s the discovery call, right? Open the gates wide open and focus right now on booking those discovery calls.

Do everything you can – tell everyone about your openings. Invite people personally to book calls! Don’t be afraid of being spammy – you’re coming from a place of honesty and integrity!

Go all out – every opportunity you get ask people, “hey, do you want to talk about this on a call with me?”

Worry about crafting long term strategies later, but what do you need to do right now to get people to the sale?
