3 Big Fat Lies Crushing Our Leadership Spirit

October 13, 2020

Today we’re taking DOWN three huge leadership lies that are quieting and crushing our spirits as leaders. It’s time to break out of the boxes we’ve built around ourselves and rediscover who we are as leaders of teams.

Your strengths are tools. Have you been comparing yourself to someone else? Someone else’s journey to your own? I think it’s about time we look down at our own feet and learn how to climb our own way up.

The first leadership lie – your nature isn’t to lead

I hear it too often. “I can’t lead because…” (I’m an introvert, I’m too young, etc.)

By saying this you are not just denying your ability to guide, but you are denying:

  1. Your expertise and strengths as having the capacity to serve and benefit others.
  2. The influence you have, which is the capacity to have the effect on the character, development, or behavior of someone or something.
  3. Your abilities as a leader.

If you want to change the world you have to look in the mirror! It starts with YOU. Be the leader you were meant to be, and do it for the good of this world. Don’t let negative leadership run our world.

By sitting on your hands you are covering up your strengths. These strengths were gifted to YOU. Who are you to not use them and wield them to benefit and lift others up.

The second lie – you can’t lead because you have messed up before

Many of my clients come to me after having a bad experience with team members and they feel they made a mistake. If you have found yourself in this situation, I want you to go back to where things went wrong and ask yourself if in that moment you were leading with your true strengths?

By analyzing what you would’ve done differently you are allowing yourself to learn from this experience. Rather than letting the experience have a negative impact on you. Don’t try to force your innate strengths to live up to some external standard of perfection. It doesn’t exist, and it’s only holding back your leadership potential!

The final lie – the mentality of “I’ll cross that bridge when I get there.”

Stop buying courses to give you a step by step how to! Especially when it comes to your team, you have to know your leadership first. Ditch the strategies! You are your own momentum. Know how to show up as your fullest self and then use the tools to propel you forward.

Know your leadership, know your business, and know what you need. Don’t let other people tell you what you and your company need. It’s your business and your legacy and your change in this world! Only you can do this for YOU! You can’t build your home using someone else’s dream.

Stob believing in these lies! They will only hold you back and create even more self doubt in your head. Remember the leader you were born to be. Allow the strengths that were gifted to you propel you forward!

Take your next step

It’s time for you to discover YOUR leadership style; learn how to hire, train and support current and future team members; and learn how to use your strengths to coach other humans to their fullest potential.
