Did you know… what you focus on in others affects HOW you interact with them? Your focus affects the expectations you set, your tone, your conversation, and so much more. This is why it’s so important to be a strengths-focused leader.
As Tom Rath wrote in Strengths-Based Leadership, “If you focus on people’s weaknesses, they lose confidence. At a very basic level, it is hard for us to build self-confidence when we are focused on our weaknesses instead of our strengths.”
In today’s episode I’m sharing a workshop on strengths based leadership I gave my Leadership Academy.

What is Strengths-Based Leadership?
What is a strengths-based approach to leadership? It’s a way of leading that focuses on serving, building and growing what’s strong, not what’s wrong, in an individual.
Strengths-focused leadership builds a team that believes they can speak and be heard, believes they are an integral part of the organization, and believes in their own strengths.
You’re naturally building the leadership of others. In turn, this approach:
- Improves engagement and collaboration as team members begin to naturally lead
- Increases diversity as you hire and look for strengths and natural talent
- Increases creativity as team members feel more free to expand into their strengths
